Private Weaving Atelier Near Cusco
The visit begins at a private workshop located in the hills near Cusco, where Ruth Pimentel, an indigenous master weaver recognized by UNESCO, greets guests. She explains her family heritage, her UNESCO award, and the Andean textile traditions preserved through a social-impact project. Participants then work at the loom themselves. With guidance from Ruth and master weavers from Parobamba, they choose seasonal botanicals, hand-dye baby-alpaca yarn using ancestral methods, and learn backstrap weaving, a technique passed down through generations of Andean women. The finished piece is completed on-site and given in packaging with a signed provenance card.
