by About Santa Fe Tours
This small-group history walking tour thru Santa Fe lasts about two-and-a-half to three hours and includes no more than 10 participants. The tour begins at Santa Fe Plaza, where the guide spends around 20 minutes explaining the history of Santa Fe and New Mexico. The group then walks to the Palace of the Governors, the oldest continuously occupied public building in the United States, with a 10-minute stop. Following this, there is a 15-minute segment covering over 400 years of Southwest history. Next, the tour continues to the Cathedral Basilica of St. Francis of Assisi for about 20 minutes, discussing the area's Spanish colonization history. If the cathedral is closed, the guide provides the information outside. Afterward, the group visits Sena Plaza for 20 minutes, one of Santa Fe's oldest homes, and learns about a notable local secret nearby. The tour proceeds to the Loretto Chapel for 25 minutes to view the Miraculous Staircase. Then, the guide leads the group through the Barrio de Analco neighborhood for 15 minutes, one of the oldest neighborhoods in the United States, including information about the oldest church in the country. The final stop is the Oldest House, where guests enter for about 15 minutes to learn about adobe construction and its history. The tour moves on foot thru Santa Fe, a city different from many others, walking historic streets that may be uneven, with limited seating available. All fees and taxes are included. Tours may be canceled during winter if weather conditions are unsafe due to cold, wind, ice, or blizzard.
