Overview

Santorini is a Greek island known for its volcanic landscape and historic sites. This full-day small-group tour lasts about 10 to 11 hours and covers important Venetian castles, local villages, and beaches. The group starts at Pyrgos village, walking up to the Venetian castle atop the hill for panoramic island views. Next, the tour visits Megalochori village where the Symposion Cultural Center offers a workshop on traditional Greek musical instruments and mythology, although this stop is skipped from October 15 to the end of March. The tour then drives around Akrotiri castle with a short photo stop overlooking the southern caldera. Afterward, there is about two hours of free time at Perissa black sand beach (also called Perivolos) to swim or have lunch independently. The route continues to Emporio village to walk through its narrow streets and see the best-preserved Venetian castle, once a medieval trade center. In Fira, visitors relax in an old canava while tasting local wines. A brief stop follows at Firostefani for photos of the Blue Dome and Rock of Skaros, important landmarks from the island’s Venetian period. The tour concludes in Oia village with time to explore its historic streets, captain’s houses, cave homes, and chapels before watching the sunset from the Venetian castle overlooking the caldera. Transport throughout is by air-conditioned minivan with hotel pickup and drop-off included. The group size is limited to 18 people and a tour escort accompanies the trip. Wine tasting is included, but entrance fees and meals are not.
