Overview

The tour starts with hotel pickup in Districts 1, 3, or 4 of Ho Chi Minh City at either 8:00 a.m. or 1:00 p.m. Guests board air-conditioned transportation and travel to the Cu Chi Tunnels, stopping briefly at a local lacquerware factory for a restroom break. The Cu Chi Tunnel system once extended over 250 kilometers from Ho Chi Minh City to the Cambodian border and was three levels deep, containing trap doors, living areas, storage facilities, weapons factories, field hospitals, command centers, and kitchens. Upon arrival, the group spends about one and a half to two hours exploring the tunnels and exhibits. Visitors see underground bunkers such as a kitchen, meeting room, and ammunition storage, as well as displays of weapons and booby traps. Guests can choose to crawl through original Viet Cong tunnels of 20, 60, or 100 meters in length. An optional visit to a shooting range is available where participants may pay to fire AK47s and M16s; the cost of bullets is not included. Snacks, bottled water, and a tasting of local tea and tapioca, which were common rations during the war, are provided. After the visit, the group returns by bus to Ho Chi Minh City, where they are dropped off at the original pickup point or another location in District 1 if requested. The entire tour lasts about five to six hours and is led by a Vietnamese English-speaking guide.
