Overview

This small-group day tour lasts about 4 to 5 hours and includes transport from accommodations in San Juan, Carolina, Rio Grande, or Luquillo. A professional guide provides information about the ecosystem and history of the area during the trip to the east side of El Yunque National Forest, the only tropical rainforest in the U.S. National Forest System. The tour begins with a 30-minute hike on a trail that may be muddy, leading to a vivid natural mineral water pool where swimming is allowed. Along the trail, participants see diverse plants such as bamboo, guava trees, and trees estimated to be 300 years old. After this, there is a 15-minute rocky hike to a second water spot with natural waterfalls. On Saturdays, the tour follows a different, steeper, and muddier route that requires good physical condition; those not prepared for this route are advised to book on other days. Entry to El Yunque National Forest is included, but any entrance fees are excluded. Transportation is provided in air-conditioned vehicles, and USCG-certified lifejackets are available. Infants under 2 years old are not permitted on the tour.
