Overview
The tour begins at Piazza San Vincenzo on Stromboli Island approximately two hours before sunset. After a safety briefing, participants start hiking along a nature trail that ascends to 400 meters, the highest point permitted with a volcanology guide. The route passes through Mediterranean scrub and includes a visit to the island's old cemetery. Throughout the hike, there are continuous views of Strombolicchio and the volcanic summit craters. The group then reaches Ashàra, a notable location on the volcano, before continuing to the Sciara del Fuoco. At the Sciara del Fuoco, hikers stop to watch the sunset over the Aeolian archipelago and observe volcanic eruptions lighting the night sky. The return descent takes place in darkness using torches and headlamps. The entire walking tour lasts about five hours. Helmets and headlamps are provided. Bottled water and dinner are not included.
