Overview

This 10-hour day trip from Shanghai visits the cities of Suzhou and Zhouzhuang Water Village. The tour begins with a one-hour visit to Suzhou’s Master-of-Nets Garden, a Ming Dynasty garden designed to represent a miniature universe. Next, there is a 15-minute stop at the Grand Canal near Panmen Gate, one of Suzhou’s ancient city walls dating back over 1,000 years. Visitors will have time to view and photograph the gate by the canal. The tour continues with a one-hour visit to the Suzhou Silk Museum, located in the Suzhou No. 1 Silk Mill, where traditional Chinese silk products can be seen and purchased. After Suzhou, the trip proceeds to Zhouzhuang Water Village, known for its well-preserved residences from the Ming and Qing Dynasties, including nearly 100 courtyards and 60 carved-brick archways. Visitors spend about 90 minutes walking through the village. A 30-minute boat tour on a Chinese-style gondola follows, cruising the waterways where locals still carry out daily activities such as washing clothes and shopping from boats.
