Overview

The tour departs from Taupo Marina and lasts about two and a half hours aboard Tiua, a 53-foot luxury sailing catamaran operated by Taupo Sailing Adventures. Tiua has a stable twin-hull design, indoor and outdoor seating, a spacious saloon, a covered cockpit, timber paneling, three illuminated cabins, restrooms, and changing rooms. The large cockpit table seats ten guests for dining or socializing. The sailing portion lasts approximately one hour and fifty minutes and offers a quiet, eco-friendly way to travel on Lake Taupō. Guests can enjoy views of the lake’s coastline while listening to live commentary about the area's history and culture. The vessel is equipped to sail in various weather conditions, ensuring comfort throughout the trip. The main stop is a twenty-minute visit to the Māori Rock Carvings, a 14-meter-high figure of Ngātoroirangi surrounded by over 40 smaller carvings, which are only visible from the water. The tour includes the longest swim stop available on the lake, weather permitting. Complimentary refreshments vary by departure time: the 10 am sail includes a hot drink and biscuit; the 12:30 pm and 3:30 pm sails include beer, wine, or non-alcoholic drinks; and the sunset sail offers a half pizza snack with a drink. Beanbags and blankets are provided for comfort. A fully licensed bar with additional drinks and snacks is available on board. The tour does not include accommodation pickup or drop-off and is subject to minimum passenger numbers and weather conditions. Check-in is at Berth 16/17, 30 minutes before departure, with boarding 10 minutes prior. The skipper may cancel or alter the trip if weather or health and safety concerns arise.
