Overview

The Tromso Aurora Hunt lasts between five and eight hours and begins with a meeting in front of the Scandic Ishavhotel, Fredrik Langes gate 2, 9008 Tromso. From there, the group travels by bus to locations away from city lights, chosen each night based on weather forecasts and local knowledge to find the safest and most promising places to see the Northern Lights. The exact route varies depending on conditions, with hundreds of possible destinations available. Upon arrival at the selected viewing site, guests put on thermal suits and boots provided in all sizes to stay warm outdoors. The group then gathers around a bonfire to enjoy homemade soup and hot chocolate. Guides give instructions on how to photograph the Aurora and take pictures of guests, which are sent by email in web-size resolution after the tour; higher resolution photos can be purchased. The tour includes multiple hotel drop-off points on Tromso island but does not include hotel pickup. Participants should be prepared for a short walk of about 200 meters at the viewing site and limited toilet facilities; there may be a gas station stop during the drive, but at the camp only natural outdoor options are available. The tour operates in all weather conditions and requires guests to wear warm winter layers and boots in addition to the provided thermal gear. Guests must be able to walk the short distance to the viewing area.
