The Valle de Cuelgamuros (formerly known as the Valle de los Caidos or Valley of the Fallen) is a monumental memorial complex situated in the pine-forested foothills of the Sierra de Guadarrama near Madrid, Spain. Commissioned by dictator Francisco Franco in 1940 and constructed largely through the forced labor of political prisoners, the site serves as the resting place for over 33,000 victims of the Spanish Civil War. The vast estate features a colossal 150-meter stone cross, the tallest in the world, and a massive subterranean basilica carved directly into granite. Today, it stands as a complex historical site transformed into a memorial dedicated to constitutional values and all war victims
