Upon arrival, guests visit the Visitor Center, which includes exhibits and a documentary explaining the winter of 1777-78 and George Washington’s leadership. Next, visitors explore the reconstructed soldiers’ huts of the Muhlenberg Brigade, which illustrate the harsh conditions endured by the Continental Army. The tour continues with stops at the National Memorial Arch, honoring Washington and his troops, and General Washington’s Headquarters, a stone home used during the encampment, where visitors may be allowed inside depending on opening hours. Additional stops include the statue of Baron Friedrich von Steuben overlooking the Grand Parade grounds, where he retrained the Continental soldiers, the Artillery Park with its reconstructed artillery pieces and exhibits on military operations, the Gothic Revival Washington Memorial Chapel, and the Schuylkill River Trail, which runs through the park and played a role during the war.
