Overview

The Vatican Museums were established to display the vast art collections of the Catholic Church, including Renaissance masterpieces and ancient sculptures. This small-group bus tour lasts about three hours and begins with a meet-up at a designated location in Vatican City. The visit starts in the Pinecone Courtyard, where the guide points out the ''Sphere within a Sphere'' sculpture before entering the Vatican Museums without waiting in line. The tour covers the Candelabra Gallery, Gallery of the Tapestries, and Gallery of Maps, featuring Greek and Roman statues, Flemish tapestries, and detailed Italian maps. In the Pio-Clementino Museum, highlights include Laocoön and His Sons, the Belvedere Torso, and the sarcophagus of St. Helen. Next, the group visits the Raphael Rooms to see frescoes by Raphael, including The School of Athens. Afterward, the group enters the Sistine Chapel to observe Michelangelo's ceiling and The Last Judgement fresco. Talking is not allowed inside, but the guide gives commentary before entry. Visitors must have knees and shoulders covered to enter. Except on Wednesdays, the tour ends at St. Peter's Basilica, entered via the Scala Regia to skip the lines. The guide shows artworks such as Michelangelo’s La Pietà and Bernini’s Baldacchino. If the basilica is closed, the guide will adjust the itinerary to use the time elsewhere in the Vatican. Headsets are provided for groups of six or more. The tour includes skip-the-line tickets, the guided visit, and multiple start times to suit schedules.
