Overview

This guided cultural tour in Venice lasts about two hours and fifteen minutes, with priority access to St. Mark’s Basilica and the Doge’s Palace. The tour starts in Piazza San Marco where the guide explains the history and significance of the square before leading the group inside St. Mark’s Basilica. Visitors will spend time admiring the golden mosaics and marble inlay floors of the basilica, originally the private chapel of the Doge of Venice. The guide then takes the group to the basilica’s museum on the first floor, where the famous horses are displayed, and up to the terrace for views over St. Mark’s Square. Next is the Doge’s Palace where guests skip the line to enter and explore the halls where the Doge and his Council governed Venice. The palace contains many Renaissance paintings, including the world’s largest oil painting by Tintoretto. The tour continues across the Bridge of Sighs to the new prisons, named for the last sighs of prisoners viewing Venice before imprisonment. After the guided portion, the Doge’s Palace ticket can be used to visit the Museo Correr, the National Archaeological Museum, and the monumental rooms of the Marciana National Library, all located in St. Mark’s Square.
