Overview

This half-day bus tour of Wellington lasts about three hours and twenty minutes and covers key city sights. The tour begins with views of the Museum of New Zealand Te Papa Tongarewa and Saint Gerard's Church and Monastery from the outside. It then continues to Mount Victoria, where a 15-minute stop offers a full 360-degree view of the city from 197 metres above sea level. Next, the tour visits Weta Cave for about 15 minutes, where visitors can see props from Weta Studios films and use the restroom. The route includes a drive past Oriental Bay, Wellington’s most popular beach, bordered by some of the city’s priciest homes. Guests then ride the Wellington Cable Car for 20 minutes from downtown to Kelburn, with views of the city and a visit to the cable car museum at the top. The tour stops at Lady Norwood Rose Garden to see roses, an Italian fountain, Begonia House, a café, and the Peace Flame rock from Hiroshima, related to a World War II American marine camp. The bus passes the three Parliament Buildings, including The Library, Parliament House, and the Beehive, with a 10-minute stop. Finally, the tour visits Old St. Paul’s Cathedral for 10 minutes; this Gothic Revival building is one of the best examples of its style worldwide. Visiting inside requires a voluntary donation. Hotel pickup and drop-off are included, along with air-conditioned transport, live onboard commentary, and a driver-guide. Drinks and gratuities are not included.
