Overview

The tour starts at Kanazawa Station where travelers meet an English-speaking guide and board an air-conditioned vehicle. The group travels to the Historic Villages of Shirakawa-go, a UNESCO World Heritage Site known for its traditional Gassho-style houses with steep thatched roofs. Visitors spend about two hours walking around Shirakawa-go village and may have lunch on their own. Next, the tour visits the Ogimachi Castle Old Site Observatory, which offers clear views over Ogimachi village, the main settlement in Shirakawa-go. Guests can either walk up a gentle slope with the guide or take a shuttle bus to reach the observation deck. On the return to Kanazawa, the vehicle passes Kanazawa Castle without stopping. The tour then stops at Kenrokuen Garden, one of Japan’s three most famous gardens, where visitors have about one hour to walk and see seasonal plants. Afterward, participants take part in a 50-minute hands-on session making Japanese sweets (Wagashi) with a professional craftsman. If the craftsman’s schedule differs, the activity may be painting traditional Daruma dolls instead. The tour continues with a 40-minute gold leaf experience at Kanazawa Bikazari Asano, where visitors learn about this traditional craft. The final stop is a 30-minute walk in the Higashi Chaya District, a large geisha area in Kanazawa, where guests can try soft serve ice cream decorated with gold leaf. The tour ends back at Kanazawa Station after approximately nine and a half hours. Multilingual audio guides and Wi-Fi are available on the bus throughout the day. Admission fees for Kenrokuen Garden, the sweets or craft making experience, and the gold leaf activity are included. Lunch and hotel pickup or drop-off are not included.
