Overview

This ceramic making workshop in Zakynthos lasts about three hours and takes place in a studio surrounded by olive trees and vineyards, including some olive trees over 1,000 years old. The session is led by ceramic artist Dionysia Avouri, who guides participants in creating two pieces: a turtle and a second free-form item of their choice. The style and decoration depend entirely on the participant’s creativity. Clay, tools, and materials are provided, along with bottled water, tea, and coffee. After the workshop, the ceramics are fired and can be collected three days later or shipped to the participant’s home. The workshop welcomes individuals, groups, and children, who must be accompanied by an adult. The location is peaceful and away from busy tourist areas, offering a quiet setting for pottery making.

Itinerary

First you visit the gallery - shop to get an idea of Dionysia' s work and inspiration for your creations. Then you work with Dionysia for 3 hours to get familiar with clay and create your own unique ceramic memories from Zakynthos island. The standard project includes the creation of two pieces a turtle and a second more free form (bowl, tile etc). The shape, the style and the decoration of the 2 pieces depends on your imagination and creativity! Most people complete the project in about 3 to 3 1/2 hours. We are not strict with time. Relax and enjoy the nature and the atmosphere of my studio while working with clay! Your ceramics will remain to dry under the sun and then you will paint them. Then Dionysia will glaze and fire them. They will be ready out from the kiln 72 hours (3 days) after the workshop, depending on weather conditions and our kiln firing schedule. After the workshop you may have a walk in our farm and admire some of the oldest olive trees in Zakynthos.
