Overview

This 3.5-hour walking food tour starts near Bellevue station in Zurich’s old town. The tour begins with a stroll along Limmatquai, passing the opera house and the historic Odeon Café, where participants will taste a classic Swiss breakfast including bircher muesli and local street food specialties. The route continues past landmarks such as the Grossmünster, Fraumünster with its stained glass windows, and St. Peter’s Church, which has the largest clock face in Europe. Along the way, the guide explains Zurich’s food history and cultural sites. Tastings include ten local delicacies: schnaps, cheese served with schnapps, Hochstamm Kirsch cherry liqueur, Swiss whiskey and gin, traditional Zurich sausage with sauerkraut, local Zurich Riesling wine, hot chocolate, a selection of Swiss chocolates, golden butter rösti with creamy meat stew, a secret dish, fondue bites, and chäschüechli cheese tarts. The tour also covers the history of Swiss chocolate and the banking system while walking along one of Zurich’s most expensive streets. The experience involves considerable walking, so comfortable shoes are recommended. The menu and route may change depending on availability, weather, and the day of the week. On Mondays, the cheese tasting with hay schnapps and fondue bites are replaced by a traditional Swiss fondue. Participants should inform in advance of any dietary requirements. Pets are not allowed on the tour.
