Skanderbeg Monument

Skanderbeg ranks high in the military history of that time as the most persistent—and ever-victorious—opponent of the Ottoman Empire during its heyday. The central folk hero of the Albanians, Skanderbeg became a central figure in the Albanian National Awakening of the 19th century.

Skanderbeg Statue. In Tirana's Skanderbeg Square, the equestrian Skanderbeg Statue honors Albania's national hero. It's a quick photo stop and classic meetup point, with the museum and Et'hem Bey Mosque steps away.

Skanderbeg, born Gjergj Kastrioti, was a legendary Albanian warrior and leader who fought fiercely against the Ottoman Empire in the 15th century. Raised as a hostage in the Ottoman court, Skanderbeg eventually reclaimed his Albanian heritage and led a rebellion against his former captors.

The Skanderbeg Building (also called Tirana's Rock) is an 85-metre mixed-use tower in Tirana sculpted to resemble the bust of Albania's national hero, Gjergj Kastrioti “Skanderbeg.”
