Simpsons Gap

Simpsons Gap is located 24 kilometres west of Alice Springs. You can travel west along Larapinta Drive for 17kms then turn right at the sign onto Darken Drive towards Simpsons Gap carpark. Alternatively, you can ride a bike to Simpsons Gap along the cycle path (17km one way).

This long distance walking track is divided into 12 sections. Each section takes 1 or 2 days to complete. Simpsons Gap forms part of sections 1 and 2. Camping is allowed at the Simpsons Gap camping area for Larapinta Trail walkers only.

Known as Rungutjirpa to the Arrernte Aboriginal people, Simpsons Gap was the mythological home of a group of giant goanna ancestors. Several dreaming trails and stories cross at this important spiritual site. The turn off to Simpsons Gap is along the Larapinta Drive.
