Laguna Roja

The Laguna Colorada is characterized by its vivid crimson coloration caused by a combination of red sediments and the proliferation of pigmented algae adapted to saline environments, mainly the Dunaliella salina species.

Also known as the red lagoon, the shallow salt lake lies in southwest Bolivia, on the border of Chile. It is found in the beautiful Eduardo Avaroa Andean Fauna National Reserve, which fascinates with amazing landscapes, fauna, flora and is a tourist attraction in the country.

Laguna Colorada (Coloured or Red lagoon) is a shallow lake within the Eduardo Avaroa Andean Fauna National Reserve and close to the border with Chile. The lake is famous for its strong red colour caused by algae that provide food for large flocks of pink flamingos.
