Punta Arenas Municipal Cemetery

Important characters. Relevant figures in the history of Punta Arenas are buried in the cemetery of that city. It is important to mention the chapels of the great families of that epoch such as Menèndez-Behety, Braun Hamburger, Blanchard, Greenshields, Kusanovic and Menèndez-Montes.

The cemetery is built around the Recollect Convent (Convento de la Recoleta ) and a church, Our Lady of the Pillar (Iglesia de Nuestra Señora del Pilar ), built in 1732. The order was disbanded in 1822, and the garden of the convent converted into the first public cemetery in Buenos Aires.

Père Lachaise Cemetery (French: Cimetière du Père-Lachaise [simtjɛʁ dy pɛʁ laʃɛːz] , formerly Cimetière de l'Est , lit. 'Cemetery of the East') is the largest cemetery in Paris, France, at 44 hectares (110 acres). With more than 3.5 million visitors annually, it is the most visited necropolis in the world.
