Basílica del Voto Nacional. The Basilica of the National Vow (Spanish: Basílica del Voto Nacional ) is a Roman Catholic church located in the historic center of Quito, Ecuador. It is the largest neo-Gothic basilica in the Americas.

Quito, the capital of Ecuador, was founded in the 16th century on the ruins of an Inca city and stands at an altitude of 2,850 m. Despite the 1917 earthquake, the city has the best-preserved, least altered historic centre in Latin America.

Quito sits on the eastern slopes of the Pichincha Volcano, whose crater is visible. Quito is in the northern highlands of Ecuador in the Guayllabamba river basin. The city is built on a long plateau lying on the east flanks of the Pichincha volcano.
