Kamerzell House (Maison Kammerzell)

La Maison Kammerzell à Strabourg The Kammerzell House is an emblematic building in Strasbourg, France. It is considered one of the most outstanding examples of medieval Alsatian architecture. The house was built in the 15th century and is known for its richly decorated façades with sculptures and decorative motifs.

From my point of view, the dress code was fairly relaxed. It was winter when we ate at Maison Kammerzell, and jeans and dressy jumpers seemed to be the order of the day for both men and women. We managed to eat at Maison Kammerzell twice without a reservation.

Built in 1427, but twice transformed, in 1467 and 1589, the building as it is now historically belongs to the German Renaissance but is stylistically still attached to the Rhineland black and white timber-framed style of civil (as opposed to administrative, clerical or noble) architecture.

Built in 1427 and now classed as a historic monument, this singular building houses the famous restaurant of the same name since the 19th century, and is a must on any visitor's agenda. The elaborately carved wooden facade frames a remarkable collection of stained-glass windows.
