What happened to St. Nikolai church?
Nikolai Memorial. The ruins of this church, bombed by Allied forces during Operation Gomorrah in 1943, now houses a WWII memorial and museum. The first chapel dedicated to Saint Nicholas, patron saint of sailors, was erected in the 12th century on the banks of the Alster river.
