Main Market Trier (Hauptmarkt Trier)

This is one of Germany's most unique Christmas Markets, set underground in historic wine cellars. Again, this was not one of our favorite markets, but it is worth it for foodies, wine aficionados, and those who like the idea of visiting a more unique market. It takes an hour to drive between Traben-Trarbach and Trier.

Karl Marx, the German philosopher and one of the founders of Marxism, was born in the city in 1818. As part of the Prussian Rhineland, Trier developed economically during the 19th century.
