Nea Kameni is a small, uninhabited Greek island of volcanic origin located in the Aegean Sea, within the flooded Santorini caldera. Nea Kameni (new burnt) and the neighbouring small island Palea Kameni (old burnt) have formed over the past two millennia through repeated eruptions of dacite lava and ash.

You can catch a water taxi at the old port of Fira! Use the cable car, ride a donkey or walk down the path to the old port, as suites you best! The water taxi will take you to the island of Nea Kameni to see the crater of the still active volcano.

Although the massive volcano of Santorini has been dormant since its last eruption in the 1950s, it is still considered active. Its islet and the crescent-shaped caldera are two of the most famous places of interest in the Aegean Sea.
