Clifden Castle

Cool castle ruins to visit This castle is definitely ruins, but cool to wander around. It's beautiful to see how nature is overtaking this. The walk is about 15 minutes down a dirt/gravel road and there is a small parking lot at the start that fits about 8 cars.

Clifden Castle was built by John d'Arcy in a Gothic Revival style between 1812 and 1815. In the latter half of the 19th century due to famine and a change in the D'arcy family fortunes Clifden Castle fell into disrepair.

Built in 1802, Grade II* with ornate cornicing and finely proportioned rooms, Clifton Castle boasts possibly the finest staircase of its date in the county. House contents include important portraits, furniture, silver, china from 16th-19th century.
