Mt. Nebo

Mt Nebo is a very important biblical site, recently visited by the Pope, for it was here, on the edge of a ridge overlooking the Dead Sea, that Moses first caught sight of the Holy Land, having led his people from Sinai. It is said that he also died and was buried here.

Known as the “City of Mosaics”, Madaba is the cultural epicenter for Byzantine and Umayyad mosaics. Just a short distance from the capital, visitors are just a stone's throw away from the holy monuments of religious iconography.

At 11,928 feet, with over 3000 feet of gain, this is likely considered a moderate+ or difficult hike by most. The distance (8-9 miles) and elevation gain wouldn't be too terrible, except the elevation gain seems to come all at once in two short sections, making this a thigh buster.
