Kota Kinabalu City Mosque (Masjid Bandaraya Kota Kinabalu)

Islam is the official religion in Sabah, while there is none in Sarawak. Farther to the north, Sabah's state capital, Kota Kinabalu, is a great jumping-off point for many who seek to conquer Mount Kinabalu, the tallest mountain in the country.

Masjid Negara The National Mosque of Malaysia (Masjid Negara) is the main mosque in Malaysia which is located in Kuala Lumpur. In one prayer time, this mosque is able to fit more than 15,000 people! This mosque has 16-pointed star concrete, the main roof and it has a 73-meter high minaret!

History. Preparations for the mosque began in 1989, and the installation of foundation piles began in 1992. Construction was delayed between 1993 and 1994 owing to a lack of funds. The mosque was officially opened on 2 February 2000 following a proclamation of the city status of Kota Kinabalu.

Kota Kinabalu is often known as KK both in Malaysia and internationally. It is a major tourist destination and a gateway for travellers visiting Sabah and Borneo. Kinabalu Park is located about 90 kilometres from the city and there are many other tourist attractions in and around the city.
