Who built the square tower?
Our iconic Square Tower built in 1879 as a prison originally... Fort Margherita was built in 1879 by Sir Charles Brooke, the second White Rajah of Sarawak. Actually there was already a timber structure there earlier, but Brooke rebuilt it in 1879 using brick and mortar at a cost of 8,200 Spanish dollars.
