Punta Mosquito

When the tide is low, a big beautiful sand bank appears in the sea on the main beach creating a perfect path all the way up to the far point of the island passing Hotel Las Nubes. Please be aware you can no longer walk to Punta Mosquito as it is a restricted nature reserve for birds and turtles.

How can I get to Punta Mosquito? To reach Punta Mosquito, you can take a boat tour from the main pier in Holbox or rent a bicycle and ride along the beach. It's advisable to go with a local guide.

Mosquitoes tend to thrive after rainfall, but since it's been dry, they've been pretty scarce. Plus, you can further avoid them by staying indoors during the times when the sun rises and sets, as that's when they're most active. Typically, during the night and day, you won't really encounter any mosquitoes around here.

It takes about 1 hour to get to Punta Mosquito by walking along the sandbank. Keep in mind the water rises during high tide. So if you visit at the wrong time of day, you'll have to wade through water to get back to town! The best time to visit the sandbank is in the early morning, when the tide is low.
