Laguna Manialtepec

You can experience bioluminescence in two primary locations near Puerto Escondido: Laguna de Manialtepec and Laguna de Chacahua. Both lagoons are home to bioluminescent plankton that create stunning light displays.

The main attractions of Puerto Escondido are its beaches, which have become internationally known. The area also is attractive to scuba divers because of the variety of fish, large oysters, lobsters and manta rays.

Puerto Escondido whale watching season starts as early as November. The peak of the season is from December through February before whale season in Puerto Escondido ends in late March. During this time, whales migrate from northern waters to the Pacific Ocean off the coast of Oaxaca to mate and give birth.
