Is Masaya worth visiting?
The Masaya volcano is one of Nicaragua's most visited tourist sites. Every year, it attracts tens of thousands of visitors, both foreign and local. Its proximity to Managua (30 minutes), Masaya and Granada makes it a must-see excursion, ideal for half-day or organized evening visits.
Why is Masaya volcano closed?
Masaya Volcano National Park has reopened following a closure in March 2024. This was due to a landslide that covered the lava lake with debris, blocking the release of volcanic gases and increasing the potential for volcanic explosions. Now, the park is open as usual.
