Matosinhos Beach

Matosinhos is a fantastic destination for a relaxing day on the beach, and is why so many of Porto's residents head here on a hot summer's day. The Foz district of Porto (2km to the south of Matosinhos) has many small beaches, but these have coarser sands, rocky outcrops and are exposed to strong sea breezes.

In this Atlantic beach the water temperature can be freezing for many visitors and locals as well, being at 59º F during winter and around 64º F during summer. The beach is not recommended for bathing, due to the quality of its waters which is poorer than most of its neighbors.

Matosinhos is an important port and fishing city in the north of Portugal, known for its strong connection to the sea, its seafood gastronomy and its vast sandy beach by the ocean.
