Lake Geneva (Lac Léman)

Name. While the exact origins of the name are unknown, the name Lacus Lemanus was in use during the time of Julius Caesar. Lemannus comes from Ancient Greek Liménos Límnē (Λιμένος Λίμνη ) meaning "port's lake".

The waters of Lake Geneva are reasonably clean and offer great opportunities for swimming from around June to September. Over a hundred public beaches on Lake Geneva have water quality safe for swimming. However, be careful of strong currents and sudden cold spots.
