How long is the Riffelsee hike?
Difficulty: medium | Duration: 1h | Distance: 3.1km At 3,100 m altitude you get a splendid view of twenty-nine, 4,000 metre-high peaks from the viewing platform. The hike itself begins at Rotenboden station where you can already see the lake on the left of the rail track (looking towards the valley).
Can you walk from Gornergrat to Riffelsee?
Starting from the Gornergrat mountain viewpoint, the Scenic Trail Nr. 15 (aka Aussichtweg) hikes through a beautiful rocky landscape down to the iconic Riffelsee lake. It's a great way to escape the tourist crowds and spend more time enjoying the Gorner glacier and Matterhorn views. It's a short trail at only one hour.
How do I get to Riffelsee hike?
Riffelsee Lake lies just next to the Rotenboden Station. Taking the Gornergrat Railway to Rotenboden and walking to the lake is by far the quickest and easiest way to get to Riffelsee in Zermatt. From the Rotenboden Station, it's about a 5 minute or so walk to Riffelsee (we'd barely call this a hike).
