House of Wonders (Beit-al-Ajaib)

While Freddie spent a lot of his youth in India, including boarding school there, he also lived in the little house in Stone Town that is now the Freddie Mercury Museum. The house in the small streets of Stone Town, Zanzibar where he grew up seems like a fitting place for the first museum dedicated to the Queen singer.

The best time to visit the House of Wonders is during the dry season, which runs from June to October and from December to February. These months provide pleasant weather for exploring Stone Town's outdoor sites, such as the Old Fort and the nearby Forodhani Gardens, before or after your visit to the museum.

Public affection is private. Holding hands is fine, but kissing or embracing in the street can feel out of place. You'll see local couples walking apart, affection expressed in small glances rather than gestures.

Zanzibar is generally safe, but like many tourist destinations, it is wise to avoid walking alone late at night in poorly lit or quiet areas, especially in Stone Town. Petty crime such as bag snatching can occur. It is best to use registered taxis after dark and keep valuables out of sight.
