Golden Triangle

Chiang Saen, Chiang Rai. Golden Triangle The wonder of Golden Triangle is the visit to 3 countries; Thailand, Myanmar, and Laos, in one place. It is 9 kilometres north of Chiang Saen along the Mekong riverside road.

Opium Trade Through the 19th century and up until a few decades ago, the Golden Triangle was synonymous with the cultivation of opium poppies. Indigenous communities initially grew opium for medicinal and ritual purposes, but this cultivation was quickly directed by colonial powers in the region.
