Overview

This 7-hour bus tour in Anchorage combines wildlife viewing, glacier sights, and scenic driving. The tour begins with a hotel pickup in downtown Anchorage, where the guide introduces the city’s background. Next, the group travels to Beluga Point on Turnagain Arm for about 30 minutes to look for Dall sheep and beluga whales from the shore and rocky areas. The tour continues with a one-hour visit to the Alaska Wildlife Conservation Center, where participants have a guaranteed chance to see bears, elk, moose, and other local animals. The guide shares information about the wildlife during the stop. Afterward, the group drives along Turnagain Arm, considered one of the most scenic routes in the US, enjoying views of the fjord and surrounding landscapes for about an hour. In Girdwood, there is a 60-minute break offering an optional lunch at local restaurants such as Base Camp or Chair 5, known for seafood chowder and other dishes available at reasonable prices. Depending on the season, the tour includes a 30-minute visit to Explorer Glacier to see glacial ponds and hanging glaciers in Portage Valley. There is also a 30-minute self-guided walk to the foot of Byron Glacier from late May to the end of September; admission is included. The tour also makes a 30-minute stop in Chugach State Park to view and photograph eagles, mountain goats, whales, and the surrounding scenery. Before returning to Anchorage, the group stops at Potter Marsh Bird Sanctuary, home to 130 bird species and part of the Anchorage Coastal Wildlife Refuge. The tour includes snacks, water, binoculars, all entrance fees, and transport in heated and air-conditioned vans with a local guide. Lunch is not included and is paid separately by guests.
