Overview

This full-day bus tour lasts about 11 hours and begins with a meeting at Avlabari metro station in Tbilisi. The group first travels to Akhtala Monastery, a 13th-century church known for its frescoes and nearby copper smelting caves and factory, as well as a historic defensive fortification. Next is a visit to Haghpat Monastery in Haghpat village, a UNESCO World Heritage site featuring medieval Armenian architecture. After lunch with a local family, the tour continues to Sanahin Monastery, another UNESCO site dating from the 10th century. On the way there, the bus stops at three additional sites: a 12th-century bridge overlooking a copper smelting factory reflecting the Soviet era, the Debed canyon viewpoint, and the Mikoyan Brothers’ Museum, which displays an original MiG 21 aircraft. Transportation, a professional guide, and homemade lunch are included. A visa must be obtained before the trip as visa on arrival is not available.
