Overview

The tour begins in Bangkok with a hotel pickup from one of two designated meeting points in the early afternoon. Participants board an air-conditioned vehicle for a one-and-a-half-hour drive to Ayutthaya, a UNESCO World Heritage Site and former capital of Thailand. The first stop is Wat Yai Chai Mongkhon, where visitors spend about 30 minutes exploring the large chedi, reclining Buddha statue, and surrounding gardens. Next, the tour continues to Wat Mahathat for 30 minutes to view the famous Buddha head entwined in tree roots and other temple ruins. After that, guests spend 30 minutes at Wat Chaiwatthanaram, a riverside temple known for its Khmer-style architecture, timed to coincide with sunset. Following the temple visits, the group boards a traditional boat for a 45-minute peaceful cruise on the Chao Phraya River. During the boat ride, travelers pass several riverside landmarks including Wat Lat Chado, Wat Kasattrathirat, St. Joseph’s Church, and Wat Phanan Choeng, which features a large seated Buddha statue from the 14th century. The calm boat ride provides a quiet way to see these sites as the sun sets. The tour concludes with a return trip to Bangkok in the early evening. Included in the tour are an English-speaking guide, entrance fees to the temples, hotel pickup and drop-off for tours starting at hotels, air-conditioned transport, and the shared traditional boat ride. Private land transport is available only for private tours. Gratuities are not included. The boat ride depends on river conditions and weather and may be changed or canceled for safety reasons.
