Overview

Visitors start by entering Cairns Aquarium, a climate-controlled attraction open every day in the center of Cairns. The visit takes about two to three hours and includes access to the Oceanarium featuring an underwater tunnel and Australia’s only Deep Reef tank. Guests observe over 16,000 marine and land animals from two World Heritage areas: the Great Barrier Reef and the Wet Tropics Rainforest. The aquarium follows the path of a raindrop from the rainforest creeks through rivers and mangroves to the coral reef, showing about 70 different habitats. Visitors can watch live ray and shark feeding shows and attend daily conservation talks and presentations. There is a marine touch tank where guests can handle some animals, and they may see diver shark feeds and reptiles such as pythons. The admission ticket includes all these activities and access to exhibits with endangered sawfish, turtles, tropical fish, and live coral displays. Food, drinks, and transportation to or from the aquarium are not included.
