Overview

This 90-minute boat cruise takes place on the Carolina Belle, an 80-foot vessel offering panoramic views of Charleston Harbor. The licensed captain provides live narration throughout the tour, sharing historical facts and details about important sites in the harbor. The cruise passes Fort Sumter National Monument, where the first shots of the Civil War were fired, and views the USS Yorktown aircraft carrier, known as the World War II “Fighting Lady.” The tour continues past both Confederate and Union forts, including Forts Moultrie and Johnson. Passengers also see St. Michael’s Episcopal Church, which survived both the Revolutionary and Civil Wars and features a black-painted steeple to avoid being an easy target. The boat moves along the waterfront, passing stately homes on the Battery, symbols of Southern history. The route includes passage under the Arthur Ravenel Jr. Bridge, a modern span connecting downtown Charleston to Mount Pleasant and designed to accommodate the largest ships. Along the way, guests may spot dolphins and pelicans. The cruise offers views of Charleston Waterfront Park before returning to the pier. Departure times are available in the morning, afternoon, or at sunset. All taxes, fees, and handling charges are included. Alcoholic beverages can be purchased on board but are not included. Boarding is on the top deck via a flat pier and a 30-foot boarding ramp. Stairs connect the top deck to the lower level, and restrooms are available on the top deck.
