Overview

This full-day tour combines bus travel and a boat cruise to explore the Douro Valley wine region. The journey begins with a bus ride from Porto to Peso da Régua, the center of the Douro Valley. Upon arrival, participants board a boat for a panoramic river cruise lasting about six hours that returns to Porto. The cruise passes through two dams, Carrapatelo and Crestuma-Lever, where the boat locks allow passage through the differing water levels. The boat trip includes a lunch served onboard and has restrooms available for passenger comfort. During the cruise, travelers see terraced vineyards and river landscapes characteristic of the Alto Douro Vinhateiro wine region. The trip ends as the boat approaches Porto, crossing its bridges and offering views of the historic city center and Port Wine Lodges in Vila Nova de Gaia. The exact boarding and disembarking points are provided by the reservation team after booking confirmation. The tour lasts about 10 hours in total, including transport and the cruise. An assistant is present onboard during the river cruise to help guests. The cruise is panoramic and subject to weather and river conditions. Hotel pickup and drop-off are not included, and gratuities and personal expenses are extra.

2

Peso Da Regua

Peso da Régua is a town on the Douro River known for its historic role in Port wine production. The name likely comes from a Roman villa once located here. The town developed significantly after 1756 with the establishment of the Royal Company of Vine-Growers of the Alto Douro. Vines grow on terraced slopes around the area, and viewpoints such as São Leonardo at Galafura offer views of the vineyards.

3

Barragem do Carrapatelo

The Carrapatelo Dam, opened in 1972, is on the border of Porto and Viseu districts between Marco de Canaveses and Cinfães. It is the Douro dam with the highest water level difference at 35 meters. The boat passes through its lock, providing a notable experience. This dam is located at kilometer 65 of the Douro waterway and is the second dam before the river mouth.

Barragem de Crestuma-Lever

The Crestuma-Lever Dam, opened in 1985, lies between the parishes of Crestuma and Lever in Porto district, connecting Vila Nova de Gaia and Gondomar. It is the dam closest to the river mouth, 22 kilometers away. The dam’s lock raises or lowers boats by 13.9 meters, the smallest height difference among Douro dams. Besides water storage and power generation, it supports road and pedestrian crossings.
