Overview

This full-day Douro Valley Prime Tour from Porto lasts about eight to nine hours and includes wine tastings, a boat ride, and lunch. The tour starts with a drive through the Vinho Verde region, where participants see the first vineyards. The route continues to the town of Amarante for a brief stop to view the surroundings before crossing the Serra do Marao mountains through a long tunnel. After crossing tributaries of the Douro River, the group enters the Douro Valley. The first stop in the valley is the Ponte Pedonal Metalica de Peso da Regua bridge, where guests spend about 15 minutes walking across while the guide drives to meet them on the other side. Next, the tour visits Quinta do Panascal, a medium-sized winery known for producing premium Port wines. Here, participants spend about one and a half hours touring granite wine tanks and wooden barrel cellars, followed by a tasting of seven premium Port wines, including a Vintage and a Late Bottled Vintage (LBV) port, with views over the river. The tour then stops at the Pinhão railway station to see its blue-tiled panels before spending about one hour in the village of Pinhão, an important location for Port wine production. Lunch and the afternoon take place in Sabrosa at a winery, where a three-course traditional meal is cooked over an open fire. The tour includes unlimited Douro DOC white and red wines during the day, a river cruise on a small private boat or a similar vessel depending on availability, air-conditioned transport, and all alcoholic beverages. An expert local guide provides detailed information about the wines, culture, and history of the region throughout the day. The group size is limited to eight participants. Gratuities are not included. This tour is not recommended for people under 18 years old.
