Overview

This is an eight-hour guided day trip from San Juan to El Yunque National Forest that explores less-visited, off the beaten path areas. The tour includes hiking, river trekking, and rock climbing. After pickup within selected San Juan tourist zones, the group travels about one and a half hours to Ceiba. The first activity is a 30-minute hike on a dirt and rocky trail through bamboo trees and rainforest plants. Participants then reach a river and natural pool at the base of a waterfall, where they can swim and cool off. The next part involves a more strenuous hike and rock climbing to visit additional natural pools called Las Tinajas and Charco Frio. Here, optional activities include cliff jumping, swinging from ropes, and sliding down natural water slides. Safety equipment such as USCG-certified lifejackets and helmets are provided and must be worn. After about four hours in the forest, the group stops in Luquillo for a 90-minute late lunch at a local restaurant; food and drinks are not included. Bottled water and light snacks are supplied during the tour. Park entry fees, transportation, and certified guides are included. The tour requires moderate to strenuous physical effort and is not suitable for pregnant women, children under seven, or those with certain medical conditions. Participants should wear hiking shoes, bring swimwear, a change of clothes, sunscreen, and insect repellent. The tour operates subject to weather and river conditions and requires understanding of English or Spanish. Use of lifejackets and helmets is mandatory, and failure to return equipment incurs a fee. Pickup and drop-off are only within specified San Juan areas; other locations require meeting at a designated point. The itinerary and timing may vary due to traffic and weather.
