Overview

This full-day tour starts in Barcelona’s Gothic Quarter, where you meet your guide and small group before boarding a private minibus for the hour-long drive to Montserrat. During the trip, the guide provides background about Barcelona, Catalonia, and Montserrat. At Montserrat, you arrive early to avoid the crowds. Spend about two and a half hours exploring the Benedictine monastery and basilica with your guide, who explains the site’s history, religious significance, and natural surroundings. You’ll learn about the Black Madonna, a wooden statue from the 12th century believed by many to have healing powers, and see where it is displayed. After the guided visit, you have 45 minutes of free time to visit the onsite art museum with works by Dalí and Picasso, walk to a nearby viewpoint, browse the local farmers market, or relax in the café. Next, the tour continues at a family-run cava winery. Enjoy a welcome glass of cava before touring the vineyards in a 4x4 vehicle. You can stroll among the vines and may have the chance to help with pruning or grape-picking if it is the right season. Then you sit down for a homemade farm-to-table lunch outdoors, featuring regional dishes paired with the winery’s wines. After lunch, see the bottling and labeling process inside the production plant. One guest will receive a personalized bottle to take home. The day finishes with a private minibus ride back to Barcelona’s city center. The tour lasts about seven hours and includes private round-trip transportation, a local English-speaking guide, Montserrat Basilica ticket, vineyard tour, cava and wine tasting, and lunch. The group size is limited to 15 people or fewer.
