Pacaya Volcano is one of Guatemala’s most active volcanoes and offers a volcanic landscape with solidified lava and steaming vents. This hiking tour starts with a roughly one-hour drive from Antigua to the volcano’s base. From there, a guide leads the group on a hike through forested areas and volcanic terrain to a plateau featuring dried lava fields and vents where volcanic heat can be felt underfoot. Approaching the crater is not allowed for safety reasons. The hike lasts about three hours on the volcano itself, making the total tour duration around six hours including transportation. On some departures and when conditions allow, participants have the chance to cook pizza over hot volcanic rocks, a separate activity arranged independently and not included in the tour price. The tour includes round-trip shared transportation, bilingual Spanish-English guiding, and hotel pickup from selected hotels in Antigua. Horse rental at the trailhead is optional and paid locally. The guide can assist with arranging this if requested. The hike is moderate and suitable for children aged four and older who are accompanied by adults. The tour operates rain or shine except in dangerous weather or if local authorities restrict access. Visitors must pay the entrance fee at the park in cash. Proper hiking boots and weather-appropriate clothing are recommended for the conditions, which vary seasonally. Pacaya Volcano

After a scenic one-hour drive from Antigua, the guided hike begins through forests and volcanic terrain toward a plateau with solidified lava flows and steaming vents where volcanic heat is noticeable. For safety, visitors cannot approach the crater. On certain departures when conditions permit, participants may cook pizza on hot volcanic rocks. The summit area offers wide views of nearby volcanoes and the Guatemalan landscape before the group returns to the base. The hike on the volcano lasts about three hours.

During the dry season from November to April, expect warm and sunny days with cooler temperatures at higher elevations; breathable clothing and a jacket are advised.
In the rainy season from May to October, afternoon rain is common; waterproof boots, a raincoat or poncho, moisture-wicking clothing, and a waterproof backpack cover are strongly recommended.
Guests should wear comfortable pants, a light jacket, and sun protection such as a hat or cap and sunscreen.

Because of frequent afternoon traffic congestion in and around Antigua, especially during peak hours, travelers booked for the 2:00pm tour (Monday to Sunday) may be required to meet at a central pickup location instead of their hotel. This measure helps prevent delays for the entire group. Advance notice will be given if this applies.
