Overview

This three-hour motorized tour from Vik takes participants on a Super Jeep ride across moss-covered landscapes to the Katla Ice Cave beneath the Kötlujökull Glacier, an outlet of the Mýrdalsjökull Glacier. The glacier and cave are named after the Katla volcano located underneath. Upon arrival, guests put on crampons and helmets before entering the natural ice cave, where they can observe distinct black and blue ice formations. A certified glacier guide provides information about the glacier's features and the formation of the ice cave. The tour starts at the parking lot of The Soup Company restaurant in Vik. The drive from Reykjavík to Vik takes about two and a half hours in good conditions, and late arrivals cannot be guaranteed a place or refund. The tour starts in Vík where participants board a Super Jeep to reach the Katla Ice Cave in Kötlujökull Glacier, an outlet of Mýrdalsjökull Glacier. The cave features black and blue ice formations and lies above the Katla volcano. Upon arrival, guests put on crampons and helmets before walking inside the natural ice cave. A certified glacier guide explains how the ice cave is formed by nature. The meeting point is the parking lot of The Soup Company restaurant in Vík. Driving time from Reykjavík to Vík is around 2 hours and 30 minutes in good road conditions. Late arrivals after departure time cannot be guaranteed a place or refunded.
