The group travels in a deluxe 14-passenger van along the coastline while hearing narration about Ketchikan’s history and landmarks. The first stop is at Ketchikan Creek and Falls, where thousands of salmon, including pink coho and Chinook, can be seen migrating upstream to spawn. Next, the tour visits Rotary Beach for about half an hour. Here, guests can beachcomb for fool’s gold and observe various sea creatures such as crabs, starfish, sea anemones, abalone, and sea urchins. There is also a chance to spot whales from the shoreline. Afterward, a short stop at a cascading waterfall offers a photo opportunity. The tour continues to Herring Cove for 35 minutes, a place known for sightings of bears, seals, eagles, deer, and many birds. Then the group goes to Saxman Tribal House, home to the largest collection of totem poles in Southeast Alaska. Visitors can learn about the history of totems and watch master carvers at work maintaining traditional carving techniques. The tour concludes with a drive through the town of Ketchikan, ending at the original pick-up point downtown. Included in the tour are carbonated beverages, bottled water, and all taxes and fees. The entire experience lasts about two and a half hours and runs in all weather conditions.
